How to Take Screenshots on Your Smartphone

Sometimes you need to capture exactly what’s on your phone’s screen — whether it’s directions, a funny chat, or an important piece of information. Here’s how to take screenshots on your iPhone or Android device and locate those captured images afterwards.

How to Take a Screenshot on iPhone

  • Navigate to the screen you want to capture on your iPhone.
  • Simultaneously press and release the Side (or Top) button and the Volume Up button.
  • You’ll see the screen flash briefly, indicating a screenshot was taken.

Finding Screenshots on iPhone:

  • Open the Photos app and tap on the Albums tab.
  • Select the Screenshots album.
  • Here you’ll find all your captured screenshots organized by date.

How to Take a Screenshot on Android

Android screenshot methods can vary slightly by device and Android version, but generally:

  • Go to the screen you wish to capture.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously for 1-2 seconds.
  • You’ll see a screen overlay or animation confirming the screenshot.

Finding Screenshots on Android:

  • Open the Photos (or Gallery) app on your Android device.
  • Look for the Screenshots album or folder.
  • All your captured screenshots will be stored here chronologically.

If you have an Android phone with gesture navigation enabled:

  • Swipe in from the edge of the screen to partially view recent apps.
  • Tap the Screenshot icon (it looks like two overlapping rectangles).
  • Your most recent screen will be captured as a screenshot.
  • For both iOS and Android, the screenshot images can typically also be found in the general Photos/Gallery view, or by using the Share function to quickly send the captured screenshot.

On iPhone, if you want to upload a screenshot you just captured to an app like Robin Knows, Messages, Mail, Instagram, etc:

  • Take the screenshot using the Side + Volume Up button combination.
  • You’ll get a preview thumbnail in the bottom left corner - tap on it.
  • This will open the screenshot in a viewer window.
  • Tap the Share icon (square with upward arrow).
  • Select the app you want to upload/send the screenshot to from the Share Sheet.
  • The screenshot image will now attach in that app for uploading.

Alternatively, you can go to the Screenshots album in Photos and share from there:

  • Open Photos > Albums > Screenshots
  • Select the screenshot you want to share.
  • Tap the Share icon in the bottom right corner and choose the destination app.

On Android, here’s how to quickly share that screenshot to other apps:

  • After taking the screenshot, you’ll see a preview screen. Tap the Share icon.
  • Select any app/contact to directly share the screenshot image.

Or, upload from your Screenshots folder:

  • Open the Photos/Gallery app and navigate to the Screenshots album.
  • Tap on the screenshot you want to upload/share.
  • Hit the Share button and choose which app to send it to.

This makes it easy to upload your phone’s captured screenshots directly to the Robin Knows app, messaging apps, email, social media, notes apps and more. The screenshots are instantly attached and ready to send with just a few taps.
